The 3 Values: Defending the Brethren
Several months ago we had a disagreement with a member of one of our short-term teams to N Korea. He had not completed essential team training, yet he was insisting to launch his own ambitious ministry projects. He was not open to our advice or help. Afterwards, he started to contact our ministry contacts in Asia and the States and spreading a false report about us. He also attempted to launch a new ministry based off of contacts he met through our ministry. After confronting him directly several times, and bringing up the issue with his local church, we are still receiving reports of him spreading false accusations about us and our ministry.

Rather than be discouraged, we have decided to move in a stronger spirit - with faith and courage that God's Spirit gives. We want to express the following ministry values and ask you to join us.

1. We will not entertain accusations or rumors of others.
Too many times we are too loose with who and what we listen too. When somebody accuses somebody in front of us, we should not passively listen and accept accusations. Rather, we should confront the person who is accusing and gently rebuke this person to go directly to the person he is offended by. The accuser should not be allowed to spread his accusations lightly. If the accuser has already confronted the person he is offended by, then we should offer to go with the accuser to the person he was offended by to examine his claim. Do not believe an accusation against another believer just because somebody claims it is true. We must cut off false accusations and direct the offended to work out their complaints with the person they've been offended by.

2. We will not use other ministry's contacts to launch our own programs without their permission.
When we take people on short-term teams to North Korea or other creative access countries, often we introduce them to many of our ministry contacts on the field. We do this to give our short-term team members exposure, motivation and field experience. However, it is not meant for the short-term team member to begin their own project with our ministry contacts without our knowledge or consent. The ministry to N Korea and other creative access countries is not for people to bounce from one organization to another, cutting contact when they do not like one organization and trying to do their own thing. We must agree to respect the work and the relationships that God has put into place between organizations and contacts. We must not use one another's ministry contacts without their knowledge and consent, understanding that in doing so, we risk causing division and misunderstandings between existing contacts.

3. We will uphold the reputations of our fellow ministry leaders.
It can be tempting for ministry leaders to listen to the accusations against other ministry leaders. A person we are ministering to can come to us for advice about "something that leader said or did." In our desire to comfort and minister to them, we can misunderstand what is truly going on - that this person is spreading a rumor and a lie and a misunderstanding. We must agree as ministry leaders to uphold the reputations and the relationships that we have with one another. We must not entertain thoughts or accusations against each other. We must stop the person and gently tell them that they must not spread rumors, but rather go to the ministry leader directly to clear up the issue. We can offer to go together with them, but we must not listen to them without the other being there. And we must ask God to discern what is truly going on and not sin against each other by listening to and entertaining thoughts against each other.

The Bible describes our enemy as the "accuser of the brethren." But God is the Protector and Defender of His children. To walk with God also means that we walk in this Spirit - the Spirit of protecting and defending our fellow brothers and sisters, especially in midst of accusation. Join us in following God strong. God has amazing things in store for His Church in North Korea and beyond. But let's start by examining our hearts. Have we joined in with the Accuser in believing unfounded accusations against our fellow brothers and sisters? Have we blindly been used to tear down instead of building up? God has grace on the humble. He will speak to our hearts.

yours,
Dave and Sus

The letters were simply "nKorea" and "sKorea"
Sept 10, 2008

I want to share a testimony followed by a few updates to encourage those longing for God's kingdom in North Korea.

Not too long ago our organization had just led a large short-term team into North Korea, and we had come back to China for a few days before departing to our home countries. One night in China our team was praying as God was pouring out His heart and urgency for North Korea. As we were praying I saw an image of letters. The letters were simply "nKorea" and "sKorea." At first I was shocked because I had never seen "nKorea" or "sKorea." I asked God what these words meaned. I felt Him speaking in my heart saying that He saw North Korea and South Korea not as two separate countries, but as One Country that was temporarily divided. The "n" in "nKorea" and the "s" in "sKorea" was but a temporary and passing situation. Soon, the "n" and "s" would pass and these two seemingly separate countries would be one for all to see.

The simple words "nKorea" and sKorea" has changed my view radically toward North and South Korea. It has helped me to believe that these seemingly totally separate countries can and will become one country reconciled by God Himself through people like you and me.

GETTING THE WORD OUT

Our ministry has been praying for more opportunities to awaken Christians around the world to prepare for the opening of North Korea. A few months ago we received exciting news that a publisher in Korea had decided to publish the book we wrote, "The Walls are Coming Down: Following Jesus into North Korea." A few weeks ago we finished our author edits and now the publisher will be working to get the book released in Korea sometime in 2009. We're praying that God would use that book to stir urgency in many. If you haven't read the book in English, you can download all three parts at www.nkmissions.com .

SHORT-TERM TEAMS

It's been exciting to see many short-term teams going into North Korea as agents of reconciliation and God's love. We can't go into details here, but literally every week God is sending in Christians to North Korea from many parts of the world. Let's pray that God anoints these teams and blesses the people of North Korea.

Outrageous Prayer (video download)
The video was filmed inside North Korea during Kim Il Sung's birthday. As the person was filming he started to hear a different song in the background that was drowning out the worship of Kim Il Sung. He was hearing "We want to see Jesus lifted high" as God was showing in faith what worship in North Korea could look like when God pours out revival. After he came back to his home country, he edited the video and audio to give a glimpse of what he saw.
