North
Korea Investigative Report
Week
5 - Children
Would
your heart be broken if you met children so poor that they've never
seen a ball before? How about if the educational system was so inadequate,
kids say they've gone to school only a few times in the past two
years? What would you say to a boy with no favorite things, no ambitions
and no capacity to trust others? These are the problems North Korean
children face everyday.
The
famine has brought devastation to an entire generation through malnourishment
and stunted growth. Teenage males entering the army are emaciated
and barely five-feet tall. Many children are neglected by their
parents or orphaned. They must fend for themselves, eating anything
they can find, even earthworms. Stories we've heard about North
Korean children paint a dark picture about their present lives.
Through this in-depth report we pray that things may arise that
will give them a brighter future.
